Ayyappa Temple

SREE DHARMASASTHA TEMPLE, MULAKUNNATHUKAVE.
The temple is situated 10 KMs north of Trichur, on the Shoranur Road.
It is believed that it was constructed in the 13th century.
In 1950, it came under the control of Cochin Devaswom Board.
Having all the requisites for a Mahakshetra, ie.  Sreekovil, Chuttambalam with Agramandapam, Pradakshinavazhi, Oottupura, Aanapallamathil with two Gopuras, wells, tank etc., it is one of the most elegant temples of Cochin Devaswom Board.
The rectangular Sreekovil with copper sheet roof is facing the west.
In the Sreekovil, there is also a shrine for Lord Ganapathi.
On the ceilings of Balikalpura, there is wood carvings based on the story of ‘Kirata’
The temple tank and nadavazhi from the west Gopuram to the main road were renovated in 2009.
Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna and Lord Bhagavathi are worshipped on the southern side temples.
Time of worship and poojas:   The temple is kept open from 5 to 9.30 am and from 5 to 8 pm. Three poojas are done daily, Ushapooja at 6 am, Ucchapooja at 9 am and Athazhapooja at 7.30 pm.  Sreebali is done daily.
Main Offerings:  Thiyyattu, Niramala, Udhayasthamanapooja, Pushpanjali, Appam, Payasam etc.
Main festivals:
Utsavam: The main festival of this temple, starts with Kodiyettam on the Uthram Nakshatram of the month, Kumbham. It lasts for 7 days.  Utsavabali is performed for 5 days. Annadanam is being conducted on all the days of Utsavam.  Pallivetta and Desavalathu  are on the 6the day. Utsavam concludes with Aarattu on the 7th day at Kattachira,  in between Peringavu and Chembukavu.
Performing arts like Ottanthullal, Kurathiyattam, dance items etc are staged during these days.
Niramala:  On the first Saturday of the month Dhanu, Niramala is conducted on a grand scale.  In addition to the daily poojas, Seeveli with 4hour Pancharimelam, Aksharaslokam, Niramala with three rows of Nilavilakku from the west Gopuram to the main road, Nadaswaram and a main performing art like Kathakali, Ballet, Natakam, Ganamela  are the main items of Niramala.
